Finding the proper scope for your hunting rifle is one of the major things for every hunter, especially for those who likes long range shooting. If you’re hunting deer, moose, bear, or coyote, you certainly need a reliable scope which is a good match for your rifle.

It has to be usable in different weather conditions as sometimes rain, sun or darkness can impede and complicate the hunt.

Nikon P-308 scope can be the right choice for all long range hunters especially for those with .308 caliber rifles because Nikon made this scope primarily to match with .308 shotguns.

Pretty good optical scope with some great characteristics

Nikon has been always well-known for making good optical scopes, and their glass clarity and brightness is hard to beat, particularly in this price range. Nikon P-308 4-12×40 has multiple layers of anti-reflective compounds on every glass surface, which helps with issues you could have with light transmissions during the day and gives an adequate view of a bright picture.

Besides great optical references, Nikon P-308 4-12×40 is specially made for .308 caliber rifles, and it has BDC 800 reticle expressly made for the trajectory of the 308 win/7.62 NATO round with 168-grain match bullet at 2680 ft/sec.

This waterproof and shockproof scope is a great match for 0.308 rifles, but it can be used on bigger calibers, too. Like all Nikon riflescopes, the P-308 is designed to use Nikon Spot on Ballistic Match Technology that allows users the same aiming points on any BDC reticle, no matter what is the ammunition and given range.

It is also fitted with spring-loaded Instant Zero-Reset Turrets which makes adjustments on the field a lot easier by allowing shooters to reset their turrets back to zero after sighting in.

The optics are clear, the glass does not fog,  and if you are hunting at night with full moon, you will be able to see clearly through the scope with no artificial light, and also take a beast out at 100 yards with no problems.

A field of view goes from 23.6 to 7.9 feet at 100 yards. The clarity is still there at 12x magnification, but don’t expect miracles when you are shooting from a larger distance. And definitely, they could put on a bigger eye relief.
